The World Sabaki Challenge Karate Championships
Dear Instructors,
Greetings and the very best of wishes come to you from Ashihara Karate.
You are invited to join us for the World Sabaki Challenge Karate Championships in October. This year’s event will be held at the University of the Western Cape in Bellville, Cape Town, South Africa and we would like you and your team participating with us. Over the past few years, we had teams and participants from overseas countries such as Mauritius, Seychelles, Swaziland, Nigeria, Pakistan, Cuba, China, etc., competing and this year we should be hosting many other overseas teams also, so look towards having a memorable occasion. If you have never had the opportunity to visit this beautiful and historical city, please plan on doing so and having an exciting visit.
This tournament will be run on the clicker system of semi-contact karate and there will be several kata and kumite divisions for male and female competitors. The divisions will be as per weight/age format. For senior contestants there will be three semi- and full contact divisions: under 65kg, between 65 - 75kg and over 75kg. The Full contact division is our Sabaki Challenge which we have incorporated with the Internationals.
This Championships is held under the auspices of the Shin Budo Kai and is sanctioned by the Ashihara Karate International. The event will be videotaped and extensive media coverage is normally received.
The day before the tournament, we will hold a Referee and Instructor Seminar and the day after, we will hold a Business Seminar and Branch Chiefs Meeting. Note that at the tournament t-shirts, ties, mugs, and other paraphernalia will be on sale.
We hope that you will all join us in Cape Town for an exciting competition and to see a beautiful City with all its historical sights. Cape Town is the Mother City and you will be able to see such places as the Waterfront, Table Mountain and many others of interest.
Mark your calendars, make your reservations and be ready for fun! Confirmation of your intent to participate by the end of August, would be appreciated. Upon receiving your confirmation, further details with regard to entries, rules, judging and tournament procedures will be forwarded to you. This information can be accessed elsewhere on this site. Please note that the deadline for entries will be the second Friday in September.
